An article in my local paper got me to pondering further the thought of the government sector being a good place to look for jobs in this recession. The article talked about how the U.S. Census Bureau is beginning its hiring of thousands of people related to the upcoming 2010 U.S. Census. Address verifiers and Census takers will be needed, and throughout the country at that. Yep, the jobs are temporary and the pay certainly won't make you rich, but hey it's work and jobs.
With what Obama has unveiled of his administration's economic stimulus plan this week, I think you will see a lot more government jobs to come, especially in the federal sector, in the coming months.
Keep an eye on the area's of government that stimulus money is directed to. We know already that infastructure is going to be a big winner. I suspect environmentally-related agencies will also benefit.
To start checking out jobs at the federal level , look at the official job site of the U.S government http://www.usajobs.gov/
You may also want to monitor your state's human resources or employment office online job listings (Although, the trickle down to the states may take a little while. Many states are currently in bunker mode and will probably only climb out when federal monies start flowing). Find your state's website quickly with the aid of a search engine.
I would love to hear from you on other segments of government that you think will benefit from the economic stimulus plans. Comment away.
