Did you know that the Department of Defense is partnering with the Department of Labor to offer some new employment opportunties to military spouses? According to Jessica Perdew, deputy director of government relations for the National Military Family Association, in an article for Military Money Magazine, the two departments have established the Military Spouse Career Advancement Initiative. According to Perdew, "This $35 million demonstration project is being offered at 18 military instillations in eight states." Spouses of junior enlisted and junior officers can apply to receive up to $3,000 for a year (eligible for a second year renewal), to pay for the expenses of secondary education and training. The spouse must be studying in a high growth field. Check with Family Services where you are stationed to find out more info.
